After years of development, conventional common cathode LED screens have formed a stable industrial chain, driving the popularity of LED screens. However, there are also disadvantages such as high screen temperature and excessive power consumption. After the common cathode LED display power supply technology appeared, this power supply method can achieve up to 75% energy saving, the led screen power consumption becomes smaller, and after the customer installs it, the cost is also reduced.
What is a common cathode LED display?
"Common cathode" refers to the use of common cathode power supply to power the LED display , that is, the R, G, B (red, green, blue) of the LED lamp beads are separated for power supply, and the current and voltage are accurately allocated to the R, G, B lamp beads, because the optimal working voltage and current required by the R, G, B (red, green, blue) lamp beads are different, so the current first passes through the lamp beads and then to the negative pole of the IC, the forward voltage drop will be reduced, and the conduction internal resistance will be reduced.
2. What is the difference between common cathode and common anode LED display screens?
① Different power supply methods:
Common cathode power supply method is that the current first passes through the lamp bead and then to the negative pole of the IC, which makes the forward voltage drop smaller and the conduction internal resistance smaller.
Common anode is that the current flows from the PCB board to the lamp bead, and supplies power to R, G, B (red, green, blue) uniformly, which leads to a larger forward voltage drop of the circuit.
② Different power supply voltage:
Common cathode, it will provide current and voltage to R, G, B (red, green, blue) separately. The voltage requirements of the red, green and blue lamp beads are different. The voltage requirement of the red lamp bead is about 2.8V, and the voltage requirement of the blue-green lamp bead is about 3.8V. This power supply can achieve accurate power supply and less power consumption, and the heat generated by the LED display during work is much lower.
The common anode is to give R, G, B (red, green, blue) a voltage higher than 3.8V (such as 5V) for unified power supply. At this time, the voltage obtained by red, green, and blue is a unified 5V, but the optimal working voltage required by the three lamp beads is much lower than 5V. According to the power formula P=UI, under the condition of constant current, the higher the voltage, the higher the power, that is, the greater the power consumption, and at the same time, the LED display will produce more heat during operation.
3. Why does the common cathode LED display have lower heat?
The special common cathode power supply mode of the cold screen makes the LED display generate less heat and low temperature rise during operation. Under normal circumstances, in the white balance state and when playing videos, the temperature of the cold screen is about 20℃ lower than that of the conventional outdoor LED display of the same model. For products of the same specifications and at the same brightness, the screen body temperature of the common cathode LED display is more than 20 degrees lower than that of the conventional common anode LED display products, and the power consumption is more than 50% lower than that of the conventional common anode LED display products.
The high temperature and high power consumption of LED screens have always been the key factors affecting the service life of LED display products, and the "common cathode LED display screen" can solve these two problems very well.
4. What are the advantages of common cathode LED display screens?
