After entering the summer, many places will experience high temperatures. Extremely high temperatures are fatal to LED displays. For users of LED displays, special attention should be paid to the impact of high temperatures on displays. So what are the specific harms of high temperatures to LED displays?
1: Reduce the working life of LED displays
High temperatures will cause very obvious light decay of LED displays. Under normal circumstances, the light decay of LED displays is about 8% to 15% in the first five years and 2%-3% in the last five years. High temperatures will accelerate the light decay of LED displays, and LED displays with poor quality will even be directly damaged.
2: Damage to internal materials such as chips
When LED chips are working, they are heating elements. High temperatures will make the chip temperature higher. If the temperature exceeds the temperature that the chip can bear, the luminous efficiency of the LED display will be greatly reduced, causing damage.
3: Deformation
LED displays are mostly encapsulated with transparent epoxy resin. If the junction temperature exceeds the solid phase transition temperature (usually 125°C), the encapsulation material will become rubbery and heat up and expand, causing deformation and failure of the LED display.
4: Affecting light color
The luminous wavelength of LED displays can generally be divided into peak wavelength and main wavelength. The peak wavelength refers to the wavelength with the highest light intensity, while the dominant wavelength mainly reflects the color seen by the human eye, which is determined by the X and Y chromaticity coordinates. High temperature will cause the wavelength of the LED display to change, thus displaying abnormal colors. For LED displays, the width value of the material in the luminous area determines the wavelength or color of the LED display. As the temperature rises, the bandgap width of the material will decrease, causing the wavelength of the device to become longer and the color to redshift, which is often called color cast, or even screen distortion.
Therefore, high temperature can be said to be a major killer of LED displays. When customers purchase LED displays, LISN LED will advise customers not to use them in high temperature environments. If they are used in high temperature environments, air conditioners must be installed to allow the LED display to be used in a healthy environment.
